This is just to say that this has been a busy couple of weeks.

We launched the Cleantech Alliance Mid-Atlantic website last week, we've been planning our 2nd Annual Mid-Atlantic Cleantech Forum, which will be held at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia on March 25th.

And I attended CleanLinks New York, our sister organization in the City and its environs, hosted by SJF Ventures, where one of the companies I've been working with, BlackGold Biofuels had a presence. (BGB's CEO Emily Landsburg is part of the first cohort of SJF Cleantech Mentorship Fellows.)

Next up: I'm leading a panel for GoodCompany Ventures on "Entrepreneruship and Social Change" this coming Thursday at GreenSpaces NY (see my previous post or Fred Wilson's here) and then heading to Boston for the MIT Energy Conference on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, my new consulting and advisory venture, VerdeStrategy, is kicking into gear. I'm lining up some very interesting clients. You can read more about what we're offering at VerdeStrategy.com

A busy couple of weeks, leaving precious little time for blogging. But I'll have so much more to blog about after this week is over.

We had run out of dishwasher cleaner so I ran out to get some. The selection at the closest grocery store was bad. Really bad. There was only one "green" product available and it was Canadian. So I decided to try it out. Win win right? Canadian and green!

My "rule" for reviewing these green products was to not blog about it until I had finished the product. I have not finished the Nature Clean Dishwasing Gel. I do not plan on finishing it. Such a waste I know but I am using so much water and energy (mine and our homes) rewashing dishes over and over again. I honestly think that I would get better results not putting any soap in the dishwasher at all. Our dishes come out covered in a film and with stuff still stuck on them. I have to wash them before putting them into the dishwasher now. Not just rinse them off....full on wash them. If I don't get it all then when it is done in the dishwasher and I go to take them out the dish will still be dirty and I will have to wash it again.
The product label says it removes 'tough food stains' which leads me to wonder what exactly this means to them. To me it means it should remove that small blog of ketchup on my plate not leave a ketchup ring where the blob once sat.

I have been using Green Works Dishwashing Liquid for several months and just finished it 2 weeks ago. The biggest thing that sticks out in my mind is the smell. I used the "free and clear" scent and it was gross. I gag just thinking about it. It just smelled really plasticy and chemically to me. The other issue I had with the product is that while it produced bubbles at first they did not last very long.

It did do a great job at cleaning dishes and did not leave any sort of residue. I also find that it is readily available and is reasonably priced ($2.99 for 650ml where I live).

I have a real problem with toothpaste and it getting all built up on the lid so that I can not close it. I had this problem with this product as well. The soap would build up on the top and I couldn't snap it back shut. It would even close over the hole so I couldn't get the soap out. I think this is probably more of a user issue then a product issue...but if you also suffer from toothpaste buildupitis then you may have a similar problem with this dishwashing liquid.

Green Works is made by Clorox and while I am of the mind that it is great when companies start "green" lines I know that some people are not. So the fact that Clorox makes this product could be a deal breaker for some of you.
